Adnan Syed Wife and Children: Ethnicity Nationality and Religion – Where Is He Now?
On September 20, 2022, Adnan Syed was released after Baltimore judge Melissa Phinn overturned his murder conviction. It comes after prosecutors discovered previously unknown evidence linking two other suspects.
Adnan was released from prison and placed in home detention, and the State now has 30 days to decide whether to seek a new trial or drop the charges against him.
“To be clear, the State is not claiming that Mr. Syed is innocent at this time,” said the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office.
“While the investigation continues, the State lacks confidence in the conviction’s integrity in light of the totality of the circumstances,”
According to Koenig, detectives knew these two people at the time of the crime. However, they were never addressed to Syed’s defense.
“The most damning thing is that at the time, a couple of people told the prosecutor’s office that one of the suspects had a motive to kill Hae and even threatened to do so,” she said. “And the defense was never made aware of this information.
The failure to turn over crucial evidence could be enough to overturn a murder conviction.” She says that these two suspects had a history of assaulting women.
