It’s a delightful victory for singers, campaigners, and longstanding partners Courtney Barnett and Jen Cloher, who call each other “wife” but haven’t been able to wed in their nation until now legally.
Additionally, Barnett is the inspiration for many of the songs on Cloher’s self-titled fourth album, filled with thoughtful lyrics about the human right to marry the one you love.
Recently, Cloher and Barnett have been on a worldwide tour together. Last year, Cloher supported Barnett and Kurt Vile on their Lotta Sea Lice record tour in North America.
Along with the drummer Jen Sholakis and the bassist Bones Sloane, Barnett is a member of Cloher’s touring band this winter.
After finishing that tour, Barnett will embark on another one this summer in support of her upcoming second album, Tell Me How You Really Feel, which will be released on May 18.
Cloher visited Studio A in late January for an FUV Live session that will appear on February 27.
The music Cloher and Barnett share and like as a couple, ranging from Television to Dolly Parton, because that visit provided a unique opportunity to speak with this great couple together in the United States.
