The actress was born in Manhattan, New York. Her family has been staying in New York since the time of her grandmother.
Her mother is of Puerto Rican heritage while her father is of Peruvian native and of Japanese descent.
The former model has two other siblings a brother and a sister which she has not opened up about. According to the actress, her family supported her modeling and acting when she started about it.
The actress also took karate lessons from the age of seven and holds a fourth-level green belt in Karate. She has also trained in Taekwondo.
After completing high school she began her acting and modeling when she was scouted by Ford Modelling Agency.
So, the actress took two years to focus on her career. Then she enrolled in Marymount Manhattan College where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications in 2002.
