Inside Alexis Maas 18-Year Marriage to Johnny Carson Without Kids
After almost two decades of being a couple, Alexis Maas said her final goodbyes to Johnny Carson on January 23, 2005. He died of respiratory failure caused by emphysema. The late-night host was known for his heavy smoking, which had caused a heart attack back in March 1999.
He died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, and his body was subsequently cremated. Although millions of people paid tribute to the TV personality, including the president of the US at the time, President George W. Bush, no public memorial service was held. After the cremation, Johnny Carson’s ashes were given to Alexis Maas, who inherited his estate.
