Ann Dowd was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, on January 30, 1956. She was the daughter of John and Dolores Dowd. After her father passed away, her mother raised her and her seven siblings.
She graduated from College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1978, where many of Dowd’s family members also went. She was studying to be a doctor and also took acting classes.
