Hamza Haq was born in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to Pakistani parents. He and his parents moved to Canada when he was nine years old and became Canadian citizen.
His mother was an organic chemist, and his father worked as an engineer for an airline company. Before going to an American school, he learned English at a school run by the Philippine embassy in Saudi Arabia.
