Katie is of mixed ethnicity, as her family possesses diverse ancestral backgrounds. Phang is an American of Korean descent.
Her father is originally from South Korea and immigrated to the United States in his teenage days. She is from an Asian family household.
Phang completed her early academics at Miami Palmetto Senior High School in Pinecrest. Then, she attended Yale University and completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science.
Katie faces many obstacles at the start of her profession as she attempts to establish herself.
When she was hired as a legal consultant in WFOR-TV to discuss the trial of Michael Jackson in 2005, she was asked to quit the role as Katherine Fernadez Rundle, the chief assistant to the state attorney, did not want her assistants to provide public legal analysis or comments about criminal trials.
Instead, Phang left her position as a state attorney’s office employee, kept her job as an unpaid legal adviser, and joined a private law practice.
From 2006 to 2008, she worked as general negligence and product liability defense counsel in a Miami-based legal company called Seipp, Flick & Kissane.
