Olaf Scholz, the current chancellor of Germany, was raised as a Protestant but is not connected to any particular church or organization. He is not religiously associated anyway.
Like that, Scholz was baptized in the German Evangelical Church despite coming from a traditional Lutheran family.
On December 8, 2021, Scholz was sworn in as chancellor in a notable ceremony for the oath of office’s lack of the line “so help me God.”
Likewise, he was the second chancellor of Germany to alter the oath in this manner. The omission was, therefore, not all that surprising coming from Scholz, but it is also important to note that he did not feel any need to give in to political pressure to speak the word in any case.
He maintains primarily secular ideas and left the Church as an adult, but he has urged respect for the nation’s Christian history and culture. In addition, he is the first German Federal Republic chancellor who is not a church member.
