Otis Williams and LaBelle were engaged around 1964. However, they broke it off as a result of conflicts regarding scheduling. Williams was one of the founding members of The Temptation.
Four years later, in 1969, she and a longtime friend named Armstead Edwards married. The couple was blessed with a son Zuri Kye Edwards. In the late 1990s, the couple separated, and as of 2000, the divorce had been finalized.
Before the divorce, Edwards had become the manager of LaBelle after she decided to have a solo career. After that, her son took that position.
Besides that family, LaBelle has two people she considers her son. Their names are Stanley and Dodd. The two are the sons of the late Venita who lived in the neighborhood.
In 1992, lung cancer took her eldest sister Vivian Rogers when she was 42. A decade later, LaBelle lost yet another sister, the second born called Barbara Purifoy, to colon cancer at the age of 41. Jacqueline Padgett was only 43 when she died after suffering from lung cancer. Therefore, she has no surviving sister.
LaBelle has condos in the Bahamas and Los Angeles as well as a home in the Philadelphia suburb of Wynnewood.
