Jones is a proud Emma Bowen Foundation Alumni. Jones studied Broadcast Reporting at Point Park University. While at college, Royce reported, anchored, and hosted various shows on the school’s television station “UView.” Jones has also been published in the school’s online newspaper “Point Park News Service.”
While still in college, he interned for KDKA for two good years. During his internship at KDKA, Jones was able to cover some high-profile stories including the Antwon Rose protests. He joined the Emma Bowen Foundation, a non-profit organization for communications students of color, and he was granted four internships with some of the nation’s leading media companies.
As an intern, he covered numerous stories for the station including the American Federation of Teachers Convention, breaking news, court, crime, weather, and more. One of his unforgettable stories as an intern was the “Art of the Brick” exhibit at the Carnegie Science Center featuring dozens of sculptures made entirely of Lego bricks!.
Jone also did a fill-in job for KDKA Assignments Editor on occasion. Fortunately, Royce’s internship was cut short, when he accepted the job as Anchor/MMJ gig in the Ohio Valley while still a junior in college.
