Sarah Stern Death: Killed by Liam Mcatasney at Her Home in Neptune City
Liam McAtasney was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of release for murdering his childhood friend Sarah Stern in December 2016 and having his old roommate assist him in throwing her body over a New Jersey bridge.
McAtasney was also sentenced to ten years in prison for defiling human remains. That sentence will be read in order.
McAtasney was found guilty on all seven counts against him in February, including first-degree murder, conspiracy, desecrating human remains, tampering with evidence, and other crimes.
According to investigators, he strangled 19-year-old Stern, his high school classmate, in December 2016 and enlisted her prom companion and former roommate, Preston Taylor, to assist in tossing her body down a bridge in Belmar, New Jersey. Stern’s corpse was never discovered.
Prosecutors said McAtasney murdered Stern to obtain thousands of dollars that belonged to her mother, who died of Cancer in 2013.
McAtasney allegedly plotted Stern’s killing for six months to obtain money from her lock box, which he believed was loaded with cash.
Sarah’s Father, Michael Stern, made an emotional impact statement while wearing a purple blouse, his daughter’s favorite color. He stated that his life has been in chaos.
“The day I discovered Sarah had been murdered, I was crushed and paralyzed from shock.
I’ve experienced nightmares and horrible dreams, “He stated. “Every day, I am haunted by what happened to her body. Sarah will never be able to hug me again.”
