Temuera Morrison sister Taini Hannah Merenia Morrison was a kapa haka performer in New Zealand. She was a talented star of the family.
She was of Ngāti Whakaue and Te Arawa ancestry. Tawhiao Hare of Patuheuheu, Waiohau, was her husband.
They had two children, Miriama and Te Wharekotua, and three grandchildren to their eldest child, Miriama.
The singer was well noted for her love and passion for the ‘old ways.’ Te Matarae-i-o-Rehu, an award-winning Maori performing group, has a leader and one of its founding members.
Taini has had a significant impact on modern Maori performance. She has paved the way for many of New Zealand’s top female performers in the performing arts.
Wetini Mitai-Ngatai, another group leader, recommended her because of her love of kapa haka and traditional ways.
She taught at Rotorua Primary School for six years in addition to performing. She was well-known for her generosity to the community.
Her involvement with the school extended to working with and assisting the children in improving their reading and oral abilities.
Morrison’s sister passed away in the early hours of June 8, 2009, from a suspected heart condition. Following that day, her body was taken to marae in Ohinemutu.
