Shabia Mantoo, Spokesperson in Ukraine, said the UN Refugee Agency, some 660,000 refugees had fled Ukraine to neighboring countries in the past few days.
At this rate, Europe’s worst refugee crisis this century appears to be on the way, and UNHCR is collecting resources to respond as fast and efficiently as possible.
All of the bordering countries have done an admirable job of keeping their borders open to people fleeing Ukraine.
Most of those who have emigrated have gone to Poland, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, and Slovakia, while others have traveled to other European countries.
They’re also aware that a large number of people have relocated to Russia. National authorities will handle the registration, reception, accommodation, and protection of these refugees.
