Gilbert Burns was born to his parents, Herbert Sr and Tania Burns, on July 20, 1986, at Niterói in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Gilbert’s father volunteered to fix his customer’s vehicle in compensation for three months of Jiu-Jitsu training for Burns to increase his son’s future.
Sadly, he suffered from lung illness when he was just six months old. His father enrolled him in a swimming school after his doctor advised it for better cardio health.
According to his mother, Tania, Gilbert studied at Rio’s municipal high school. Tania shared a very close bond with his son and used to take him to outdoor games.
