King, born in Longview, Texas, was the fifth-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the 2020 recruiting class.

King attended Longview High School. During his first career start, which took place in September of last year against the Golden Flashes, King completed 21 of 33 passes for a total of 292 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions.

King, a third-year sophomore, defeated LSU transfer Max Johnson and five-star prospect Conner Weigman in a duel for the job over the offseason. King won the challenge.

King has successfully emerged victorious in the competition to be the starting quarterback for the first game after the conclusion of training camp for the second year in a row.

A laceration to his lower leg that he received in the first quarter of the Aggies’ game against Colorado in Week 2 of the previous season forced him to miss the remainder of the season. Before that, he had led the Aggies to a victory over Kent State.

He is not the quarterback who will start for Texas A&M. King’s running skills may significantly affect A&M’s offense. He completed the 40-yard sprint in less than 4.5 seconds during the offseason.

A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher stated in July that King could hit 22 miles per hour on A&M’s GPS tracker during practice while also maintaining a constant speed in the 21-mph area.
