Frost is the son of Sir David Frost and Lady Carina Fitzalan-Howard. His father was an interviewer, a television host, comedian, and writer while her mother is a daughter of the Duke of Norfolk. Frost studied at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, from 1958, graduating with a Third in English. He was previously married to Lynne Frederick but their marriage lasted only 17 months and the couple divorced in 1982. On 31 August 2013, Frost was aboard a Cunard Line cruise ship, the MS Queen Elizabeth, when he had a heart attack and died at the age of 74. A post-mortem found that he had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
