Once his nomination gets confirmed by the Board of Directors of the World Bank Group, he will serve as the 14th president of the organization. According to the Wikipedia article on World Bank presidents, all serving presidents have been United States citizens nominated by POTUS.
Banga’s nomination came after the current president of the World Bank David Malpass planned to step down from his position only four years into his tenure. Announcing his nomination, President Biden said Ajay has the ability to mobilize funds to tackle the climate issue and other urgent matters.
Ajay has previously served as the President and CEO of payment-processing behemoth MasterCard for over a decade. He currently holds the position of Vice Chairman at General Atlantic.
According to his Wikipedia profile, Ajay Banga’s salary was $27.77 million in 2020 as the President and CEO of MasterCard. According to annual reports published by World Bank in 2021, President David Malpass made $524,970 in annual salary.
